Clean the empty house, because you only get one chance

An empty house is the easiest house you will ever clean, and the only time you can reach cabinet interiors, closet shelving, appliance backs and floor edges without moving furniture. Whether you are landing in Downtown Griffin, Heron Bay, Sun City Peachtree or out toward Rock Springs and Experiment, do this before the truck unloads.

Kitchen first

• Inside and outside of every cabinet and drawer
• Inside oven, stovetop, range hood and drip pans
• Inside, behind and under the refrigerator
• Dishwasher interior, filter and door gasket
• Sink, faucet and disposal flange
• Counters, backsplash and switch plates

Bathrooms

• Tub, shower walls and glass, including hard-water and soap scum
• Toilet base, hinges and behind the tank
• Vanity interiors, mirror and medicine cabinet
• Exhaust fan cover and vent
• Grout lines and floor edges

Everywhere else

• Closet shelving, rods and tracks
• Baseboards, door frames and trim
• Ceiling fans and light fixtures, including glass covers
• HVAC vent covers and returns
• Window sills, tracks and interior glass
• Floors vacuumed and mopped wall to wall

The five-minute checks people skip

• Replace HVAC filters before the first night
• Wipe the top of every door frame and the inside of the front door
• Vacuum dryer vent lint and behind the washer
• Sanitize every door handle, switch and thermostat
• Check under the sinks for old leaks or staining you will want documented
